Last year my 3 cylinder engine ran sporadically, spewed unburned fuel and would stall. There was no spark at the plugs. Further inspection revealed that the amplifier wires were bare at the box. I rebuilt the carbs and installed a CDI Ignition box that fires at least 1 or 2 of the cylinders. I'm in process of checking with a spark gap and if there is spark at each distributor connection will then know if it is rotor/distributor or wires. I've been looking for replacement distributor parts but they are listed as "Obsolete". Any ideas on where to get a replacement ? If it comes down to repair, can I cut the top off the distributor and replace the contacts ? Plug wires are also expensive ($ 25 to $35 each). Are there any aftermarket kits ? I thought long and hard about spending $200 on the CDI box but now wonder if it's time to shoot the old horse.

Thanks again for any help.

Re: 1970 60HP Ignition System

Wanted to cloe this out.
Testing spark with a "Gap" tester showed strong spark at all 3 plugs. No need to hunt down a distributor. Had 1 bad cylinder (#2) showing wet plug. Swapped plug and problem stayed with that cylinder.

Also checked fuel pump for vacuum side leak - OK.

Before jumping into carb rebuild (again) checked compression (OK) and low speed jet. Had mis-set jet many turns open instead of initial 3/4 turn. Reset and it runs fine (well at least as well as can be expected for a 39 year old relic). Until next time.......
