Hello,

I recently purchase a 1970 60 hp Triumph. I am hoping to see this engine on my boat soon. I have been reading a lot of the other posts on this engine, but still have a few questions.....

I was able to get the engine cranking, was able to get the compression check done...... results, 130-128-130, Is this a good reading for this engine?

I am having a hard time locating the recommend spark plugs (per the service manual), does anyone know what the right plug would be? gap?

Also, what is the recommended gear fluid for this unit? Service manual said OMC type "A" or something along that line.

I have ordered a new impeller and thermostat.... anything else I should think about before trying to start this engine??

Thanks for any help... you all seem very knowledge and experienced. I am new to the outboard world!!!

Compression sound good.

No matter what the manual says about spark plugs, use Champion L77JC4 or QL77JC4. The Q stands for inductive radio suppression. Those motors run lousy with the plugs stated in the manual.

Gearcase lube is Bombardier (OMC) Premium Blend. No substitutions there. No water allowed in gearcase. The gear oil is also the hydraulic fluid which shifts the motor.

Can Anyone tell me where to get the OMC/Bombardier Premium Blend? I have tried to find it online with no luck....

Also, should the plugs be gapped at .030??

Thanks

ishopmarine.com has OMC/Bombardier parts and stuff. Local dealers should have it too. The L77JC4 is gapped at .040. I'm not sure about the Q option, but it's closer. Maybe .030 or .035. Somebody can help me here.

Re: 1970 60hp Triumph

Thanks for the info, I was able to locate the gear fluid at a local shop.

Plugs are in.... waiting on a few more parts to come in. I hope to see it running this weekend.

I am sure I will have some other questions, so I will be back.

Thanks for your help!!! 8)
