1970 6hp johnson gas leak?

I have a 6r70b johnson. I have rebuilt the carb cleaned out the carbon replaced the gaskets and plugs. I have it running very well my only concern is i noticed that gas comes out the lower unit with water. I dont know to much about engines but i cant see that being normal. also how fast should a 6hp push a 10' flat bottom jon boat on average? thanks for any replies

Not all fuel is burned so some will exit the exhaust. You also may not have the carb fully tweaked yet.
Fast is relative. water conditions, weight in boat, even wind. That said, 12-15mph or so may be expected.

thanks for the quick reply. thats is what a friend of mine said to but i just wanted to make sure for myself. also you say the carb might not be tweaked. how do you tweak the carb?
