I just recently got this boat, it is 15'3 and is rated for a 100hp outboard. I wasnt sure where to post this, but my queston is. What motorcame stock on this boat? It seems to be a really well made boat!

Give us the weights and # of people or people and gear combined. All the #'s on the offical tag on the boat. And most important. How much of a speed nut you are on water. The make, model, width, year, wood? FG. How many v hulls under it.We know how to spend other peoples money. :)

It is a 1970 Cathedral Thunderbird. Fiber glass, it says 1200 lbs total weight with gear. 6 persons. It is 70 inches wide. How many v hulls? Its a tri hull! It is rated max of 100hp. I dont have 100hp money! I hardly have 65hp money lol! I just want the boat to get on plane and level out! The boat is for fishing and I am in no hurry! Will 65 hp accomplish this? Thank You!

Most I know of were made in Florida and bowriders. They were heavy construction and didn't come with a motor. Back then you had to pick from whatever size and brand you liked. A modern 65 should plane it aok. Use the bow seats for best results.

Thanks Bill! "Modern" may be out of my range for now! I will look for an old 90, I guess! Something to get me on the water while I get the bucks needed for a modern engine! Thanks again for your help!

Go with the 90 HP, it will be more enjoyable, less scream, burn less gas cruising and in a sudden squall, get you in quickly. Older up to the 100hp is OK as it will not put out the 100 hp. Pick a year and make that parts are available for. It will flatten small chop nicely. A great bay boat and just out the inlet boat. :)
