1970 Johnson 1.5 hp, new Champion plug, (.030), older, but good condition points (.020), new head gasket, carb taken apart and cleaned, new fuel (50-1), inside of tank is spotless, it takes quite a few pulls to get it started, ran it wot, set high speed control, ran at idle to set low speed, let run at various speeds, all seems perfect then it just dies, sometimes dies when trying to throttle up or down, then takes 10-20 pulls before she fires up again, repeat over and over again, Sounds like a fuel problem to me, but inside of carb couldn't be cleaner, no plugged holes, etc, No water on spark plug since I replaced head gasket. I have no way of checking compression, could that be cause? Any suggestions what to do before I pull out any more hair?
