I have a 70 Johnson 33 that has no pee hole. If it does not re-circ because water can't get out, how does it cool itself? It seems to me that if the water pump impeller puts water in then it has to go somewhere. Where does it go?? Does it go out the exhaust stream? If so, I am not good with that. I want to see the water coming out. So how do I plumb this system on the heated side? I don't want the pee hole line on the intake line, I would want it on the exit side in order to get the heated water out.

You should get a faucet like gush of misty water out the thumb-sized hole on the back of the motor leg. Rest of water goes out the exhaust outlet.

Is there a way to plumb a pee hole from the hot side of the motor so that you can visually see the pump working?

HI ron. I used to have a '66 33hp myself. OMC motors of this era don't have a modern "pee stream", but eject cooling water along with the exhaust gas from the rear of the motor. For starters, you have to make sure that you only ever run the motor on the open water, or in a test tank with water filled up to about 1"-2" below the exhaust port. You'll also want to use 50:1 fuel oil mix. Here's a great link to familiarize yourself with "Big Twin" motors of this era. Assuming the compression is over 90 psi per cylinder and within 10% of each other, everything else can be fixed pretty easily. You can get any routine parts you may need right here at iboats.
