1970 Johnson SeaSport II

[Johnson SeaSport II]

HI all
New here and looking for a little help getting an upper gearbox repaired / replaced on an old Johnson outdrive. Its got a Buick v6 and a white outdrive unit. We have owned since new and its not had any previous repairs or breakdowns. it was idle for the past 5 years and got pretty heavy use this summer, after our last outing gear oil started oozing out a weep hole on the exhaust housing. We are located in western North Carolina, if anyone knows of a good repair shop in the area that might tackle this project that would be great. If not does anyone know where I might find a ship/repair service or a replacement?

What year is the boat? If it is after 1968 the parts are not a problem. Most probably the lower pinion housing seals, pinion shaft, water pump shaft and of course the water pump should be replaced.
The 16c model came out in 68, previous model was a 15s.

It's a 1970 (according to the title). Is there a source for parts would you recommend? Do you know if there are special tools required and shop manuals available?

I just checked with Crowley Marine. They have the most critical part, the pinion shaft that has a sealing surface #0382883. They do not show the water pump shaft but if the splines are still good it can be reused. The seals also are available even Sierra marine has them. The Sierra # is 18-2184 for the water pump shaft. Sierra upper seal kit 18-2666. Locknut# 18-3731.
water pump kit# 18-3286. This comes with out the 1/2 moon key so it will have to be reused.
Try to get the OMC parts book and service manual from Crowley also.
