I have a 1970 Merc 500 Thunderbolt 50HP motor. I bought the boat like two years ago and it's running strong but I've never done the water pump. The previous owner claimed it was done the years before he sold it to me and I've only taken it out like a dozen times so I'd not bothered yet and just made sure to see a stream of water each time I fire it up.

I've tried to Google search and eBay search one and I keep coming up with 1974 and newer.

I would like all the parts recommended that one replaces located in or around the pump. Any seals, bearings, gaskets etc. covers etc. I don't know what all is in there but I may at well replace everything when I'm doing it.

Any suggestions or links would be GREAT!

That impeller is very common.-----Used from the early 1960's to the late 1980's ----------Most Mercury dealers will have it in stock

It's not so much the impeller I'm unsure of. More like the seals, wear plate, gaskets etc or is pretty much all of that going to be the same across the board?

Also what all do you replace when you are in there? Any bearings, bearing seals, or other shaft seals?

Look up parts here, by your motor's serial number:

http://www.marineengine. com/parts/mercury-outboard-parts/

Copy/paste the whole thing into your browser's address bar and delete the space, this site parses other websites' addresses.

Note that a 1970 50hp serial numbers start at 2736807, so this is a good place to start:
