Just bought this motor.

Does not have top end. Hesitates and bogs down at half/ full throddle. Idles good(too fast) and starts easy. Also it only pumps water part of the time. Seems to stop after running after a little while (I shut her down).

Previous owner put a new impeller in last year. Said it had the top end problems.

Any ideas??

Thanks!!!

Sounds like fuel starvation is causing the 1/2 to full throttle bogging down. Carb cleaning sounds in order paying particular attention to bowl inlet and float valve. Mercs are hot pissers, that is to say the telltale flow is tapped after the stats which is the hot water. Thermostats open (and close) according to water temp. Have you run it long enough to cause the stat to come open AND stay open ? Another thought is the new impeller may not have been run-in to take the proper shape, I.E., rotation direction to set the blades. If it was not and the engine was stored, the vanes or blades may be "set" in the wrong position.
