Good Morning,
Have many years as a auto mechanic and basic know how on boat maintenance. Recently purchased this boat, had a Chevy truck engine in it which is toast. Found a steal on a Mercrusier 165 in mint condition. All original with the cast M/C side plates, Manifolds, carb and rear housing and coupler. Engine was started on stand sounds and ran great nice and quiet.
Question is how to remove and replace the engine. Looks like if I remove the front wishbone mounting bolts and the two rear vertical bel housing bolts and all the cables and wiring it should come right out.
Not sure on the C/V propshaft that connects to the outdrive does it just slide in and out of the coupler or not? don't want to screw this up and tear something up.
Also is there something I am not aware of?
I will offer my sincere thanks in advance to those who are more wise than I on this matter.

Thanks for looking, Mike the Mechanic

Thanks for the In-tel Bond-0, So. the outdrive only without the mounting plate. Then I now know why the rear F-glass over the engine was cut out about 12 inchs wide and 4 to 5 inch high. The outdrive removal seems easy enough, remove the gimbel boot and not sure what else. Then looks like there are pins holding the outdrive on. Yes, I am a novice when it comes to this. Should look online for a service manaul to do this right.
Thanks Again, Mike
Update I see six studs with self locking nuts, this must be where the outdrive comes off.
Sorry, not awake yet. ZZZZZZZZZZZZzz

Ayuh,... To pull the drive, shift the control to forward, pull the aft end of the trim rams, then the 6 nuts holding the drive...
It should pull right off at that point...

This should Help quite abit,....
It's a BIG file, so give it time to download...

yep. absolutely. get mercruiser service manual #1. c-90-68648. i got mine off ebay. mercruiser will have it....

to remove outdrive. ya put it in fwd. then remove the trim rams, then the drive. it's gotta be in fwd to remove it. ya don't need to remove the bell housing to service the engine. yes, the bell housing is held in by pins. w/ nails bisecting them to keep them in place. all this is explained in the service manual. ya gotta get one.

you'll need to align the gimble brg. and coupler when yer done putting the new engine back in. this is done with an alignment bar which you'll need to get. it's a must have tool. ya can't use the drive shaft to do the alignment either.
