Removed the screw from the front of the lower unit and got some play but after removing the nut it doesn't want to come apart.
Tried doing a search for help but I'm still hazy. This is the old motor before the twist grip throttle. Model # 217.58531. Is there a set screw on the driveshaft near the clutch that needs loosening? Do I open the gear housing and remove a snap ring? Or do I just beat it into submission with a wooden block? Got the engine running good with a carb kit, just need to replace the impeller and I'll be in business. Just got this motor a few weeks ago for $80. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

(Update) 1970 Sears 7.0 HP impeller replacement

(Update) 1970 Sears 7.0 HP impeller replacement

Well, I ended up taking the whole powerhead off and taking the clutch loose from the crankshaft that way. After soaking for about a week I finally got the driveshaft and clutch apart. There IS a spline that will come apart. Also, discovered that the clutch itself will UNSCREW in (2) pieces. So, if you have problems like I did on this same model this is an option. There was too much corrosion on this motor. Now I wish I had left the lower unit alone and just ran it. Anyway, I've got some new gaskets on the way so wish me luck.
