Does anyone know if this motor pushes or pulls the water through the motor (I'm guessing push but after inspection of the water pump it almost looks like it might pull). Also is there any reason why the water pump would not work with the thermostat removed?
Thanks

comes up through intake on lower unit and up to impeller through water tube and then to power head and out exhaust and prop hub.

Ok so let me ask this then, there are two holes that Presumably go into the motor and come out just below the lower motor cover. These holes have some smoke that come out but I know that the exhaust also comes out of the prop to.... What are these holes for?

They're pressure relief outlets. When the motor is in the water and either has yet to be started or is at idle, they prevent excessive back pressure on the exhaust. On most motors, about all you will see coming out of these holes, is a bit if exhaust and mist.
