1970 Starcraft that I bought back in the fall, got a great deal, and hopefully with a little work when the weather breaks, be ready for the spring jig bite on Erie.

I can get the motor to crank, but won't start, replaced the plugs, maybe a solenoid? The trim goes down but has to be "jumped" to go up, bad wire, replace the switch?
The carb shoots fuel out of the needle, i cleaned a bunch of corrosion out of it, but still doing it, any suggestions?

I want to do this on my own for as little as possible, I am a pretty handy guy, as long as I can have something to reference it to, so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For the Starcraft gurus is this all original? Besides the carpet, the original vinyl is under the carpet.

Wish me luck!

Re: 1970 Starcraft Holiday

I'm not sure on original or not but I like the IAFF sticker in the window ;) gets definite browny points from me. Looks like an awesome looking Holiday! Hopefully you get her up and running! I assume your from MI? You should edit your profile to show your location. Good to see a neighbor join the club.

Maybe think of reposting the pics in starcraft section also, very active down there and LOTS and LOTS of good info. I'm in the middle of a complete restore and wouldnt be nearly as confident with it if it wasn't for the Starmada.

Man, that is a sharp looking boat, congrats! Hey, the guys over on the IO section are super helpful if you'd like to stop buy and post up your questions.

Welcome!

Nice rig, welcome to the Starcraft fleet.:)

She looks original to me...that mustard yellow is a SC paint scheme we've seen before.

Love the classic Mercruiser gauges, they give a real nice look to the dash.:D

Get a rebuild kit for the carb. Take your time and go through it. Patience is needed and be very meticulous.

Trim could be switch or connector, maybe wire, solenoid too. I would check the switch first, bypass it.

To run an engine you need, spark, compression and fuel. Do you have spark? Pull a plug, ground it out and crank it over. Points, condenser, rotor cap, wires and plugs, replace em' all.

Sounds just like my boat. I got it running and outdrive moving up and down. It took a while but I figured it out. I'll help all I can.

Thanks for the comments and replies. Hopefully this turns out as well as some of the others on here. All I need now is it to have a heated shop or it to be warmer than 15, I might make some progress.

Rebuild kit on the carb, any ideas of SC part # or a way to reference it to buy from iboats?

Hey rodeo, there's nothing SC about your motor or drive. It's all Mercruiser so those are the model or part numbers you'll need. We have an unbelievable group of gurus in the I/O repair section of this site and your best bet is to put a new post up there about your engine or drive issues. Those guys don't hang out in the resto forum much. Good luck.

Any GOOD parts man can get you a rebuild kit. Find the part number off the carb. An auto parts store is where I got mine. Not a parts man under 45 in the place. I gave the guy the carb number and he says I might even have that kit in stock. I almost crapped. He didn't and it took two days to get.

This is one of the most delicate and important pieces of your engine. It will make or break you. It's not hard to rebuild but you need to have at least some mechanical aptitude for it. One piece of dirt in the wrong place and she won't run right.

Good luck.
