Lots of things were lapstrake back then. That's a pretty nice hull for someone into that sort of thing (which of course none of us are :D)

Lapstrake design was used to make the old wooden boats of the 40's and 50's. Fiberglass guys of the late 50's copied this design. The lapstrake fiberglass looked familiar to the new buyers. They were more likely to take a chance on this new fangled material. It's a stronger design too, vs smooth sides.

This design prevailed through the sixties. Them old boats are built like tanks, very serviceable. Not cool beyond belief like our tinnies though.:D
