I had my pontoon out yesteraday and I hit a log in the river. Now when I use my motor It will start just fine and go in forward and reverse but when I push the control to accelerate it seems like it either pops out of gear or starts slipping. Basically when just going at idle speed it is fine but as soon as I hit the throttle to speed up it just revs the motor way up and doesn't move the boat any. I checked the shear pin and cotter key on the prop and they were not broken. Any ideas on were to go from here? Is this mean I have destroyed my lower unit? Any help or ideas will help me alot. Thank you.

No, you just spun the prop. The prop is really two pieces pressed together with a rubber bushing in between. It's made that way to prevent gear damage when you hit something. A prop shop can fix it.

So, If thats what happened, why does the prop look to be in fair condition? So you think my gears are still good? I'm just trying to figure out were I should go from here. Thanks again.

I got 3 spun 40 HP props in the garage that look great!
The rubber is in there to prevent gear damage when you hit something.
You can check to see if it's a spun prop by drawing a line with a permanent magic marker across the centerline of the prop, running the motor in the water, and then seeing if the marks still line up.
A prop shop can fix it.
