What rpm should my motor run at usually at WOT?

What is a good rpm for safe running? I don't want to stress the motor.

Good news took boat out on the lake after having the skeg repaired and it ran at 4100rpm and got 35mph. Just wondering what is a good rpm for running this motor? Ill have some pics to post up soon. Thanks to Clams and Laddies!

OpK, You should be able to look up recommended max RPM online somewhere, whoever is will be at lease 5300 RPM, so your motor is either overpropped or suffering from some malfunction.

The recomended Max RPM for that motor sould be 5,000 - 5,500 Rpm's. I proped my '79 140 to do 6,000 with just me in the boat. Runs the best and seems to be working the least between 3,900 - 4,200.

Hope this helps.

Craig

Re: 1971 1350 IL6 RPM question.

My 1350 on a 16' Sidewinder had no problem spinning the tach right up to 6000. It was very happy doing so, too! You'd definitely want to prop on the high side of the rpm range if you're doing any water skiing.

What kind of boat and what's the pitch of your prop?

And if the engine is in good shape internally, don't worry about stressing it. These ol' Inlines were built to run hard!

Just be sure to use quality fuel and oil.

HTH.........ed

Re: 1971 1350 IL6 RPM question.

Thanks for the replys fellas. I had to do a slight modification in the MercControl box and it doesn't allow me to get throttled up all the way. I will be working on it tonight to get it up a little more now that I know it is safe up to those rpms.
Thanks -Mike
