1971 25 horse evinrude

i am thinking of buying this 1971 evinrude with good compression ect... is there anything i need to look out for on this motor or is it fine like the 1986 15 horse evinrude i have ? oh ya 1971 25 horse

Early 2 cycles are pretty much the same regardless of year or size. The designors didn't screw things up much until they started adding VROs, fuel injuction, sensors everywhere and lots of fancy computer thingies.

Very good, sturdy engines. Only weak point [if that] is steering arm must be fully down or chance stripping out connecting gears that open throttle. Later models used cable for this function because of this.

I have a '72 25 horse. Can't complain. Easy to work on and if it's treated right there isn't much work to do.
