1971 40hp Johnson sitting for few years

I just received a 14" boat with a 40 hp Johnson outboard. It was sitting exposed to the weather for a couple of years without being used. What should I do before trying to fire it up ? The head has been replaced - how can I find info on it ? All help is greatly appreciated.
