My 71 Evinrude 50hp is poppin the fuse kinda randomly. This is the starter solenoid fuse I think (located under the hood cowling, the only fuse I have seen). When it blows, the engine has no fire to the starter soleniod. Also, if it is running and the fuse blows, the selectric shift stays in forward gear, no neutral or reverse. I can put a new fuse in and it will start right up and then the shifter may work fine for awhile. I still have not noticed anything or sequence that might be blowing the fuse. I bypassed the fuse (bundled -up piece of copper wire) while out on the lake and had no more problems starting or running. Put in a 30 amp fuse and it will pop eventually.

My question is: Can this be some kind of a short in the selectric shift? My solution at the moment might be to replace the fuse with a circuit breaker, something that will reset.

Just got this motor going after sitting for awhile, It has set off the buzzer a time or two, I replaced the impellar and thermostat and it has done it twice sense then. Other days it will run all day and not set off the buzzer.

It seems to run alright, its pushing a 1760 welded aluminum boat in the 27-29 range with a 13 3/4 X 15 aluminum prop.

Thanks for any help, Gary.
