maybe its just me, but i cannot for the life of me get this thing to idle smooth.
my 1959 35hp's idle would put this thing to shame. it vibrates a bit and there's a miss or skip while its idling. tonight at the dock i diconnected the link between the timer base and the throttle, wired the throttle cam so that the line on the cam was in the middle of the roller on the carb link, then played with the timer base to try and obtain a good idle. no luck.
Things i've done thus far:
-new plugs QL77JC4 gap .030
-complete carb cleaning and rebuild
-replaced powerhead to exhuast housing adapter gasket
-checked compression 135#,140#
-preformed decarb twice
-checked spark with 7/16 gap tester
maybe i'm expecting too much. I assume that this ignition system should be superior to the old points and condensor system.
guys help me see what i'm missing
also rpms at wot are 4500 with 14x17 prop, i believe it calls for a 13.25x17 so that may improve the rpms, just didnt want to leave any thing out
thanks
