Good Morning all,
I just bought a 1971 Glastron with a 1971 Evinrude 60HP motor, this question has probably been asked a million times, but I can not find the answer. What is the fuel mixture for this. It came with a 6 gallon fuel tank. Also how long will this tank last.

50:1 Fuel to oil mix. 6 gallons gas + 1 pint oil gives you a 48:1 mix which is close enough, and also what I use. 6 gallons should last around 1 to 1.5 hours at WOT.

rule of thumb is for fuel usage is 10% of the hp. = gallons per hour at wide open throttle. this is effected by the boat type and size, proper set up, and tuning of the motor.

Thanks for the info, on the mixture, I forgot to ask what type of oil. Im hoping to use this boat a few more times before winter sets in (I'm in Anchorage Alaska) I'm looking at taking it out in Whittier while the silvers are still running.

Any TC-W3 2 cycle oil would be fine.

Re: 1971 60 HP Evinrude fuel mixture question

Thanks again,
Sorry for being the New Guy. But I really appreciate the help.
The boat came with a new battery, and a can of fogging spray, the original owner showed me how to "fog" the engine when I store it for the winter, and told me to ensure that the engine is in the up position when it is out of the water. If it's not raining tomorrow, I will take it to Whittier and go out on the water.

I will have to disagree about storing the outboard in the "up" position. Its my understanding the the water will only drain completely when in the "down" position. I maybe mistaken, someone correct me if this is wrong

I think he means with the power head high which would be the correct way.

Sorry for the confusion. I was told to keep the engine "up" like it is in the water. Is this correct? It rained all day here in Anchorage, so I did not take the boat out on the water. Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Just so there is no confusion with your new engine: it should be vertical, especially when you store it outdoors in the winter. You might have to tip it up for trailering and/or launching.

There are a couple of books readily available in libraries and book store on general care and feeding of outboard motors. If you've never owned one, and just plan to do general owner maintenance (as opposed to repairs and trouble shooting), you should go to one of the largish bookstores and get one. It will teach you how to properly winterize (as will the FAQ in iboats forums), and other basic stuff. Have fun catching cohos!
