Hey all,

I am replacing my water pump on this motor. When I pulled it yesterday the water tube also came out. I'm sure that's not unusual. However my question is about a plastic sheath that is around the water tube. It's not tight around the tube and I'm trying to figure out what the purpose is of this. The tube itself fits snug into the water pump housing. Is it just supposed to surround the connection point around the tube and water pump housing? It seems kind of pointless but I can't figure out what else it would do.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Shane

On top of the water pump, there is a square cut thick black o ring that the pipe goes thru.To remove the pump first you slid the seal up the pipe slowly as not to mark it.

To answer your question, the purpose of that loose fitting plastic tube is to aid in guiding the water tube into the pump outlet when reinstalling the lower unit. It will become apparent when you do the reinstall :D

The water tube does sometimes pull out of the powerhead instead of the pump housing when removing the lower unit. You need a flashlight to see up inside the midsection and then install the water tube back into the powerhead before reinstalling the lower unit.
