My 71 6hp evinrude was running smooth and sounding great today on the water. While I was putting through a no wake zone she died and would not start again. After long row back I'm looking for some troubleshooting advice.

I checked the compression and had exactly 60 psi on each cylinder- as for a spark I am getting a white one on each plug. The plugs had oil/gas on them when I pulled them out. Any advice toward my next step would be appreciated- this is my first outboard and I am clueless.

Check the "Top Secret" file at the top of the forum, roooo. Do "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find.

My spark does not seem to show any blue so I will be going into the ignition and replacing some things (condenser) - What would cause my plugs to be wet and black? Could that be an ignition issue also or something completely unrelated?

I would change the plugs and try it again, then go from there. Plugs foul pretty often on two strokes,I change mine yearly.
