My 1971 70 Hp Chrysler outboard with Magnapower I distributor has no spark at all.
I have done this procedure to confirm that my powerpack is Ok:
Hook the blue wire to red wire terminal (by pass key switch)
Put a wire in the coil and hold it about 3/8" away from engine block (somewhere has naked aluminum)
Remove the black and white wire from distributor then touch this wire to ground on/off
The wire from the coil produces very strong spark.
So the main problem is lying at distributor.
Is there any rebuild kit for distributor? Any suggestion will help.

I took the distributor out and did some cleaning. Put it back then got spark but 2 minutes later there was not spark anymore.
Is it bad point ? or bad connection of the wires?

Re: 1971 70 Hp Chrysler outboard without spark

I had a similar problem with my '69 70 hp, but my box was bad in addition to other things. Anyway, FIRST thing is to ensure that the points are clean, gapped to .014, and all connections are clean & solid, especially at the coil terminals. DO NOT over lube the cam that the points ride on as this could cause problems. If everything else is squared away you will have fire at the plugs. Friendly advice...Remove the distributor to ensure that the points are installed and gapped properly. It is MUCH easier to adjust the point gap this way.
