Newbie! I just purchased a 71 Caravelle bowrider (CX151). This model has a through hull fitting below the water line off starboard bow. I believe this is a factory feature. A hose connects this fitting to another fitting inside the bow near the area where a bowrider's feet would be. I am curious of the purpose of this hose and whether it should be plugged, etc. Have not had boat in water and would like to be confident of the purpose of this piece first. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

ILW,

Can't say for sure, but I'd say that fitting and hose system is a drain for that open bow if a wave is taken over the bow or the boat sits out in the rain. It looks to be an OEM installation. Unless you have had the boat in the water to verify it, I don't think the outlet is below the water line even when the boat is at rest. If it is, you might be carrying a lot of extra weight in the form of water logged flotation foam. Lastly, don't plug it. Its really kind of a safety system for the boat. Hopefully others much more familiar with the boat will chime in. I could be way off here.

I believe it is an OEM fitting. I have seen pics of others with the same setup. Your response is basically the same as another user in a different forum section. Much appreciated.
