Hi, I wanted to re-align the speed indicator on my recently acquired Sportster.
I removed the retaining screw on the twist handle.
When I tried to reinstall the twist handle, the two gears won't engage unless I
push the twist handle in. Could I have lost something when I removed it.
The only things in the twist grip were the spring and a white plastic retainer?
Im lost, please help.
Thanks

Shouldn't have done anything to the gears. BUT, there's no way to realign the handle - it's aligned with the gears due to the flat on the shaft of the throttle rod. The gear rides against a bushing. Those bushings can wear out, allowing the gears to get away from each other. I've had good success adding a nylon washer between the gear and bushing to re-engage the gears better...

Thanks Chine, Not only was the bushing worn, but each gear are missing a cog and some cogs are bent.
I found a gear and shaft for the handle, still looking for the gear on the motor side.
Thanks again
