I bought a 1971 Evinrude 18 HP in the spring. I replaced the spark plugs, changed lower unit gear oil, and it runs great. But recently, it will "stall out" and die unless you pump the bulb on the fuel line; then it rev's back up & goes. Sugesstions plz. Also, could anyone recommend other maintenance that I should perform on this old motor? TYIA

Rebuild your fuel pump. Also make sure all fuel lines and primer bulb are soft and pliable with no cracks.

I'll give it a shot. Anyone know where I can find a cowling? Thanks.

Not wanting to sound the wrong way but this site is used for a learning tool and to ask for assistance and then just reply problem solved doesn't benefit anyone but you. I think it is right to let people know and learn how the problem was solved. Rick.

quagmire60, send him a pm, business is not discussed in open forum.

Rick agree, but most just go boating, and forget that. i assume he rebuilt the fuel pump.
