1971 Evinrude 18 or 1962 Evinrude Lark IV comments

I have the good choice of either a 71 18hp rude on a 16' 1950's vintage Seaking. The motor runs good but the boat is a bit weathered. <br />The other choice is a 1962 Evinrude Lark 40hp on a 14' Pacific M boat. The motor runs and the boat is in decent shape.<br /><br />I can get either of these combos for about the same cost. I am not so familiar with either of these motors and I would appreciate any comments on these outboards to help me choose the best motor. <br /><br />I also own a 3hp kicker that I can put on either boat for trolling. <br /><br />Thanks in advance for your feedback!

If both boats are sound and similar design its the motors you need to decide about. <br />The 18 obviously is lighter and easier to handle and will get better gas milage.<br /> The 40 is a lot heavier and almost impossible for one person to handle.Obviously more powerful but an awful gas hog.<br /> The 18 is probably a less complicated motor to maintain and parts would be somewhat easier to find.Both motors can be run safely on 50:1 mix.
