Top of the day everyone!

My first post. I am new to having a power boat, I picked on up for a song (actually the guy sung me a song, and sold me a broken boat motor) :)

Alas! One more thing to dink around with and learn about

the motor is a 1971 Evinrude 40 hp Ski twin.

I have had lots of headaches so far. I ripped the timing plate apart on the flywheel hooking a coil :(

Fixed that with a different timing plate.
Didn't have spark, now I do. Still doesn't start yet, just cleaned the filter and diaphram, made some new gaskets etc.

The switch I am unsure about. I think I have it all hooked up right, but I am not sure. There are two magneto wires that I am not sure go to witch plug.

I am so close to getting this thing running. I got spark after I disconnected the (rectifier??) the part that the: solenoid wire one magneto wire and the neutral safety switch, and a coil wire connects to....I am not sure what the part is.

The wiring seems simple but I am ignorant about what is what.

If you know what it is and perhaps a part number? that would be great, also some trouble shooting tips about the carb...such as lean and idle adjustment the (the knob with the numbers 1-5 on it) should run it in and back it out a certain amount?

Also timing what benchmark should I use and how do I adjust it?

I am sure there will be more questions in the future!

Thanks in advance for any info and suggestions!

I am really stoked about this project it is a 40hp twin on a little 15' runabout, gonna be fun!

Weeeee!

Re: 1971 Evinrude 40 hp Ski twin

Found a diagram on this forum. This forum rocks socks!

That should get me where i need to be.

I guess my motor doesnt have a generator or a regulator....

Is it not necessary? Just need to put my battery on a trickle charger occasionally I guess. :)

Still wondering about startup carb setting and timing though. :)
