I have recently purchased this '71 evinrude 50 model 50173s. It was not running when I got it because the throttle cable was broken and the ignition switch was jamming. I have fixed that. The engine starts easily and ran well when I took it for a slow cruise around the bay, but stalled every time I would take it down to the lowest throttle position. Before putting it in the water I found it idled best on muffs with mixture screws set to about 1/2 turn out. The new plugs were wet but not carboned black when I got back to dock. This motor does not appear to have a throttle stop screw that would allow me to set the idle higher. Carbs were clean as a whistle when I tore them down to inspected them.
Question is, how are you supposed to adjust the idle SPEED on this motor?
