Has anyone experienced plug wires glowing on an OMC CDI system (early 70's with points). The arcing is from the wires to the block & to each other. The wires are new (OEM) ....as is the "rotor button" and the coil.

If you are saying that the plug wires are arcing to ground, they are bad. If they are new wires take them back and have them checked for voltage leaks or tell the dealer you want differen't wires. Did the old wires arc to ground?

Yes, the old wires did the exact same thing. It doesn't seem to be arcing each time the spark is sent to the cylinder(s). It doesn't seem to be "stealing" the spark from the plugs (at least when it's not under a load). It also has a "halo" around the ends of the "distrubor" too. I temporarily converted it to use a "car coil"......and it still arcs. So, that tells me it not something with the amplifier. I'm wondering if something weird is going on with voltage bleeding into the distributor ..from the stator. ...or something. I tested the stator....it seems ok. I disconnected it too......but, still the arcing. By the way, all of this glowing can only be seen at night.
