Hello, i just purchased a very nice little Evinrude 6hp Fisherman for pretty cheap. Sat for years. 3rd pull started right up but no water. I replaced the impellar and when i tried starting, nothing. Was told the coil for the #1 cylinder was shot. Went in and replaced that, condesors, points, plugs. I even replaced the thermostat. Guess what? Fired right up and ran great. Water was coming out of the water exhaust just fine. However, i noticed a little smoke coming out of the cowling and turned it off. The engine was smoking and very, very, hot. What did i do wrong? Thanks

You may has not gotten the water tube into the pump outlet properly (missed completely, gotten the grommet folded over, etc.) or a bad seal with the wear plate. If the wear plate is scored at all, it needs to be replaced. Same with the pump body. Also, the seal ring or gasket against the wear plate must stay in the groove in the pump body during assembly. Just a few things to check.

Yep, that's what it was. I was struggling to get the shifter cable back in place the tube must have come out. Works great now. Very pleased. Thanks for the info.
