1971 Evinrude 9.5hp

I have a 1971 Evinrude 9.5hp outboard. I am running this motor on a 14ft princecraft that weighs about 180lbs dry. The prop that I have is pretty beat up but there are so many different pitchs to choose from I don't know which one would be best for me, whats the dia. of this prop too? I need something with a good cruise speed, and top end would hurt either. <br /><br />Also is there anyway to get a little more power out of this motor?<br /><br />Thanks ~ Mrbell83

My 1967 johnny 9.5hp has a 8"x7" aluminum prop. It pushes my 12' Alumacraft (120lbs) w/ two people easy. Hope this helps.

mrbell, although the 9.5 is a great motor, i have yet to get mine to push a 12ft aluminum boat on plane. i've done extensive rebuilding on it and it just doesn't have the "go". I suppose it's only due to the fact that i live at 6000ft and do most of my fishing in the 6000-11000ft range. i will tell you that new parts are pretty easy to find, but, upgrades you'll pretty much have to fabricate yourself. i looked into doing a 15hp carb. swap, but came to find that this swap only works if you're swapping onto a 9.9. there must be something significantly different between those two motors. i have two props that i use. one is a 8 1/4 X 8 1/8 and the other is my altitude prop which is a 8 X 7 1/8(from a johnson) i get about 100-300rpm higher with the smaller prop. just doesn't seem to be that much difference to me, maybe a mile per hour or so, but runs smoother at higher altitudes. either way they run very well, just don't expect a speedboat out of this motor.
