1971 Evinrude Lark Electric Shift

Need help please! put a new impeller in lower unit on my 71 evinrude lark 50hp,still have no water coming from ports,but water is coming out just above where the lower unit bolts up,as much water that is going in through the earmuffs is coming out just above lower unit where its not supposed to,any ideas,i did notice that water was coming out of the same place even before i put the impeller in.

I think your water pump housing is worn out. Water is escaping around the hole where the drive shaft goes through. Does it still have the old original metal pump housing? If so, buy a new complete water pump kit, which converts it over to a plastic housing with stainless steel liners. A great improvement.

Thank you, The impeller kit i put in came with motor, because guy i got it from did not know how to take the lower unit off so he sold me the motor,and gave me the impeller kit which was just the kit no housing.When i took it apart the impeller had three fins missing.Back to your question yes it still has the orignal metal housing,i will go get a new one and put it on,thank you so much,I really appreciate you sharing your expertise with me and all the others who have helped.With many of my questions.
