It is a 9.5HP. I don't have the chart for post-1964, but The '64 Johnson MQ-10, which is similar, used Champion J4C, gapped at .030".

According to championsparkplugs.com, an Evinrude 9.5HP with Standard ignition, model years 1964-1973 uses Champion plugs RJ8C or J8C, gapped at .030

Just one more major error in that site. There are plenty.

J8C is FAR too hot for that engine. Use the J4C or, if you do a lot of idling or trolling and have fouling problems use J6C gapped at .030".

RJ8C?? Just another case of the charts saying whatever fits the hole, use it. Even if it's wrong.

OMC says J4J. Closest thing available now is J4C.

Wow I've used that site a couple times already...

Where would you recommend a guy go to lookup spark plugs then?

Re: 1971 Evinrude What plugs???

re: championsparkplugs.com; Asyou are finding out, that site is not very reliable, and, as stated by them, they are not official for the manufacturer.

The boatsetup chart is put together by OMC/BRP specialists and is the best public list that I have seen. The very best sources for spark plug information is your BRP dealer or the BRP online store: http://shop.evinrude.com/

If you go to the store link, click the diagram in the upper right corner, navigate to your motor and select the cylinder and crankcase diagram. Selecting the number pointing to the spark plug will take you to the original part line and clicking the magnifying glass will display the superseding spark plugs.

Nevermind on the chrysler one. I answered my own question, the specs are in the repair manual I have for it.
