Your motor has the famous Tecumseh Solid State Ignition - World renowned for early failure, nightmarish replacement/repair. The first thing you should do is see if you have fire. Pull the plug wire, pull the plug, stuff the plug back in the wire boot, ground it, and yank the starter to see if there's any fire. Don't yank it if the plug's not grounded. If you don't have spark, you got other problems. The expertise and resources are available to make that motor go, but you may not think the game is worth the candle. If you have spark, you should be looking in that gas tank and fuel lines for old fuel residue, rat's nests, and other non engine/fuel materials. Make sure it's all clean. The odds are that the carburetor will need some cleaning and parts to run, but let's see if you got fire first.

nightmarish replacement/repair

C'mon don't scare the kids away,

Hey I just finished a inline module design of my own (all nice and neat) but I'm going to name it after uncle Ed...
"The Stoller power module" adds up to 15hp to your Eska!!!

a that is if you have a dead 15hp and you buy two modules :D

looks factory made except for the fact I used brown, yellow, and green trailer lights wiring....LOL

No I still have the one good one. I'd just like to know how to build a replacement for the one that mine is missing. I need to post the pictures of how mine was cobbled together so someone else doesn't think it's a good idea

Re: 1971 sears 7 hp boat motor what settings do i use to start it?

Ok I do have spark and I cleaned the gas tank and line out so that is done. It appears to be getting gas as far as I can tell but wont start :( I looked up all of the specifications and made sure that I mixed the gas correctly now I am baffled as to what to do next. I am willing to do what has to be done to fix it but just not sure where to start. How can I tell what would need to be replaced on the carb? All the help you are giving is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance again :)

Pull the plug and give it a little fuel thru the plug hole, then yank the starter. It will likely fire briefly and die, but it's a morale booster, because then you'll know that after you've rebuilt the carb, it's gonna run - it's just waiting on fuel. Ya gotta join this group;

There's carb service info in there. Also, for part numbers, get a load of this;

If you want OEM parts, Certified Parts Corporation is the place. You have to call them, the website's useless. Have your model number in hand, they'll hook you up. Do not run that motor without replacing the water pump impeller, it'll overheat, and break all our hearts. None of this stuff requires special tools, just the know how, persistance, and parts. You bring the persistence and the parts, the know how is here. It looks like you may have one of the late'60s motors that used a brass seat and a rubber tipped needle. I don't remember if I've seen where to get one, but they were not used long, so there aren't a lot of them out there. It's part number 631505, and if that's the only thing holding you up, you can mail it to me and I'll make you something that will work.

OK we were able to get the motor running :) Got my parts form the Certified Parts Corporation also . When it is started it is in nuetral and the propeller is still running. Does anyone have any ideas on what would make it do that and if so what part I would need to get to fix the problem? Thanks for all your help with this:)
