Hi boat restorers! Here is my new project boat that I will be working on the rest of the summer and through next year. The transom and floor seem to be in good shape. It's in good enough shape to run it on the lake, so that's good. We've had it out a few times already. It has what appears to be the original 40HP Merc (402 model). It runs pretty strong. GPS clocked it at 25 MPH with about 340 lbs of people weight.

This is the technically my 2nd project. My first project was the '85 bayliner that is also on this forum which I ended up parting out and scrapping the hull. It was a little too much project for my first time.

I was looking at the dark blue band and red pinstripes on the hull and immediately thought 1972 Crestliner. The boat looks pretty original and in good shape. The motor appears to be the same year as well. Hopefully all is well in the stringers and the gellcoat doesn't have any spiderweb cracks. It looks like all you really need to do is some basic maintenance in order to keep it reliable. Check your wheel bearings and especially the tires. Maybe some bearing buddies would be a good thing (you know what I mean?)

It looks like a nice rig that is well preserved. Good luck with it!

here is my old one! It was my grandpa's and has sat unloved in the cold for the last 15 years......

Anyway, I inflated the trailer tires, pulled it out and started to clean it off this weekend!

it had a merc thunderbolt 500 on it growing up, but we blew it up a long time ago.

I'd like to restore it and put a 60 on it....:)

Cool pics ,I've seen a few 72's with the dark blue the red looks nice too.I have a 71 with a very cool different paint job.it's yellow on the top white on the bottom and has a black stripe below the rail bout 3" wide that dips down right before the crestliner emblem and forms a stinger.cool huh my stinger has a stinger.has anybody seen this paint scheme? Also it has a bench seat along the back.the shell is ok but one thing I would check is the core.mine is completely rotten and I'm in the process of replacin it.if you push up on the bottom and it flexes easily the core may be shot.it's balsa.just somethin to look out for.I know it's a lot of work but I love the paint scheme and haven't seen another anywhere.I'll try to get some pics up soon.it has a merc 500 thunderbolt that looks really good on it. I'm thinking of putting red seats in it to match the stripe on the motor.if anybody has any info on the 71 it would be much appreciated.while I have the rear bench the front seats have been replaced and I would like to know the original configuration.I'm not sure the lounges will fit with the bench.

Heres my first boat, purchased today, also a stinger, not sure what year, model 64374 if that means anything to anyone. Runs well, but obviously needs some cosmetic work. I dont even know where to begin. Anyone have an idea of what a new paint job would cost for this thing?

I wouldn't paint it. That gelcoat looks like it would clean up pretty well.

X2. Paint can and will rub off, whereas gellcoat runs deep into the fiberglass. It is a matter of finding the right non-destructive product to remove oxidation, then protecting it with another product.

I took your advice, im not going to paint it, I bought a cleaner from rona that said it was for fiberglass boats and it seemed to work ok. I have no idea what products to use and the guy at rona didn't seem to know much about boats. I also wanted to clean the vinyl seats but 30 years of crud doesnt come off very easy so it looks like i may need new ones eventually. Is there a product that anyone has used that worked well for them? There are also some noticable scratches in the front that i wish I could touch up. I appreciate the advice. I put some more pics so you can see what the product did.

stinger...that looks beautiful!!!!

great work! How does it run with the 35?

They're rated for a 60 so I'm gonna try to find a late 80's jonnyrude or something for mine

Try magic erasers for the seats.

Re: 1972 14' Crestliner Stinger (pics)

Think i may build seats for my crestliner like that. Unless i come across a couple sets for purchase..haven't see anything yet tho..

I think I'm gonna buy two seats for up front and then a bench at the back for a couple of other folks when I do this restore.

The good news is that we just bought an '05 merc for our bayliner which means that the motor from it (a perfectly running '85 johnson 60hp) will get transferred over to the crestliner!!!!
