1972 20 hp sneezing

Sometimes when my 1972 20 hp johnson is idling it runs funny for a little bit like its sneezing or something. if i play with the throttle some reving it up and back down it will stop. What causes this to happen? The motor runs perfectly usually and it runs great out on the lake at wot

That's commonly a lean sneeze. Usually you need to richen up the low speed jet on it. Turn it out half a turn or so.
