Hi everyone, I'm a boat rookie but a certified mechanic and I just acquired a 1972 22' Sea Ray Cuddy with an 188hp 302 and Merc Outdrive. The boat has only ever been in lakes, but living in Washington State next to the Puget Sound, I got the boat because its big enough for me to feel comfortable taking it in the salt water around here (weather can come up fast). Talking to the former owner, he recommended to install a heat exchanger or closed cooling system to prevent issues with corrosion etc... resulting from salt water. I am all for doing things right and prolonging the longevity of the boats running gear, so what would be some recommendations on this update? The former owner says this was an option for the boat and I should be able to find a whole setup used to install with only a few new parts. Since I really don?t know much about this setup, and help or opinions would be greatly appreciated. She is a solid boat for her age, and I would like to keep her that way. She just needs a little TLC, some updates, and a little elbow grease so I can take my 4 year old daughter and girlfriend out and do some touring around the Puget Sound. I'm replacing a 15' Bayliner Capri bow rider that was just too small to really play with and I would never take out in the Sound. Thanks in advance to anyone that is willing to share some much needed knowledge and experience. :D
