The front deck/flood lights on my 72 Chieftain have broken off their mounts and I am looking for something comprable. Here is a pic. Also, there is some kind of black vinyl pasted to the sides of the cabin that is peeling off; suggestions on what and how to replace this with would also be appreciated.

You have to use Photobucket or another hosting site right now, DV, In PB copy the IMG code and paste it in your message for a large pic for our old eyes.

All I did was click your links and on the right side, under Links to share, clicked the box to the right of IMG and pasted the code into your posts.
The lights look a lot like ones you can get at an auto parts store. Is the vinyl on the outside of the cabin? I would be tempted to rip it off and paint it a lighter color to reflect the sun's heat.

Somehow those early 70's vinyl tops on cars ended up on these boats. Peel it off, razor blade to get it off the edges, use some sort of adhesive stripper to get the gunk off. I used MEK and some fine steel wool to take the adhesive off.

Is there anything you can do for the pitted chrome that won't cost a fortune?

Well as far as the vents and bow light, just best to buy new. At least that is what I did. Too tough to get the old off, tried filing, grinding, etc but to no avail. Wasn't gonna invest in blasting and rechroming.

You should buy new stainless, the old pitted and peeling stuff won't clean up. I doubt you could remove all of the old to put on new chrome.
