I have a longshaft 25 HP that was some what taken apart, it's in boxes. I am going to attempt to put it back together. First of many questions; does the wiring control unit which I do not have need to be pugged into the the motor to get a spark at the plugs? Does this motor have a charging system? Looking for any and all info I can get, thanks.

After looking your engine up here on the Evinrude engine part section, it doesn't look like any 25 HP Evinrude produced in 1972 has any type alternator or charging system. They did have electric starters but no charging abilities... You can search your engine on the Evinrude engine parts section which does display IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown) sections for your engine. You may also be interested in purchasing an original Evinrude shop manual for your year, model, HP specific engine. That manual would explain every little issue for your engine and how to assembly it and test it as well... It would be your best investment...

No & No. If it did have a wiring harness and keyswitch, the key would have to be "on" to get spark at the plugs.
