I am buying a 1972 silverton 33 foot boat, with twin 318 engines the starbord engine is missing but the transmission is there, are the engines the same but with different transmissions or do the engines rotate different. Thanks Bob

Ayuh,.... It's been done both ways over the years,...

Industry standard has pretty much moved to All lefthanded motors, 'n switchin' gears in the transmissions/ outdrives...

What transmission ya workin' with,..??

Post a picture of your props as well, should be real easy to tell if they turn opposite directions.

dont know what type of transmissions they have but both transmissions are still in place never removed, so i can buy a 318 engine from some one and was wondering if all i need to do is bolt it in, or are the starbord and port engines totaly different. Thanks bob

They are different. The starboard engine turns clockwise as viewed from the flywheel. It takes a different camshaft, crankshaft, distributor and starter.

The only visible indication is the firing order.

The ones I've run into had a standard marking and you just had to sort it out for your self. But I wouldn't want to say that they are all that way. The starboard engine should be the counter rotating.
