I have a bad stator and need to remove the flywheel to replace it. Does anyone know the size of the flywheel nut? I dont have a socket that big and need to buy something but want to get the right size on one try. What about the 3 puller bolt sizes? I have a wheel puller kit but don't seem to have the exact size.

My last question/statement is does anyone have any tips, suggestions or things to lookout for when removing the flywheel?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Take a caliper and measure the flats across the sides of the nut. That will give you the size.

From memory: 1-5/16" socket. 5/16" SAE bolts. Subject to brain failure. Like boobie says, just measure it.

Hints you ask? More important than removing it is reinstalling it. The crank and flywheel tapers must be shiny bright clean and dry. You MUST use a torque wrench to tighten the nut. Don't dare even think you can guess at it. Torque must be 100-105 foot pounds.

Your brain is just fine, the measurements were quite correct.

Thanks to everyone for the help as I replaced the stator with no issues.

Although oddly enough, the safety switch, which after reading other posts on this forum, went out and caused a no spark situation--also resolved.

Thanks again,
Matt
