It is a long story but I'm hoping some one can pick out something in the detail that I am missing.
Had a fishing trip planed for a large lake in Utah so I spent several hours cleaning and readjusting carbs. Motor purred in test tank. On the water the motor purred like a kitten for a couple hours while we trolled. Ran into trouble when we had to shut down motor to clear ishing line wrapped around prop. Cleaned some of it and decided to return to marine to finish the job. Ran full power back to marina with no issues. Pulled motor up and spend several minutes clearing the rest of the line. When we put motor down and tried to fish again is when it happened. Enigne would not throttle up. would run at idle but when I applied gas it sputtered and stopped. Attempted to readjust low speed jets on water, no improvement.
My thinkings is that I have one of three issues. (1) carbs flooding out, (2) loosing spark to one cylinder, (3) the motor. if I am reading maunel correctly, has an over heating curcuit that will drop power in half if motor over heats. Have not run motor since getting off lake. What am I missing???

ps, I have been having similure problem last few times boat was out that is what prompted the cleaning and readjust of carb.

It could be a problem upstream from the carbs in the fuel system since it ran good for a while after you cleaned the carbs out. I would take the carbs off, rebuild them with a kit, replace ALL of the fuel lines, repair or replace fuel pump, install an inline fuel filter and see how she runs after that.

An intermittent problem like this usually points to an electrical issue. Do you have a DVa meter??

Lets start here. Check each spark plug wire one at a time with motor at idle. Should have a nice continuous blue spark at each wire. We are looking to see if you have good spark at each cylinder. If we can fuel that out well move from there. But like suggested earlier it sounds like you have some crud that had moved into a carb jet

The boat is not where I can hook up water to run but I can look at filter in pump. Than you for the help so far. Could the float valves be hanging up? I only noticed the problem after haveing the motor tilted forward to clear snag. Gut tells me it was flooding out and not starving. When trying to clear what I thought was flooded cylinder I noticed more than usual black smoke in exhaust, Normally after engine is warm I see no exhaust smoke.

Motor should be able to trim all the way up without an issue. 2 stroke are hard to flood because the ga just goes right out of the exhaust ports. Fouled plugs are a different story. Check spark and compression to rule them out.
