1972 6hp Johnson replaced coils, points and condensers, now no spark at all?

Engine was running this year, but developed an intemittent miss on one cylinder. Changed plugs, regapped points, but problem still there. When I had the flywheel off, I noticed both coils were cracked. So I figured it was time to replace everything. Now after doing it, I have no spark at all. I've checked and double checked everything, but still no spark on either cyl. Any clues?

google..bringing a 1956 johnson 15 hp. back to life....study the ignition/magneto sections with emphasis of the coil heels over the mounting bosses, and all wiring to the coils and points and how to set the point gap

......also did you replace the wires, or made sure you clipped 1/2 inch off the old ones, and screwed the coils back onto the wires (they dont push on so well). make sure none of the wires from he new coils arent touching any moving parts...ie the crank.(i made the mistake of not tucking the wires away, and wore through the insulation on one coil wire just by pulling the cord.....many times!

Oop's, my mistake! I had the little green wires from the coils to the points switched, no wonder there was no spark LOL! I found something else of interest while I was working on it, I noticed it was leaking lube from the lower unit. I thought maybe the seal was gone, but at closer inspection I found a tiny hole on the bottom of the plate just above the prop. It looked nice and round as if there used to be a screw there. I ran an 8-32 tap into it and with some gasket cement on a stainless screw, I replugged the hole........no more leak. Is there supposed to IMG_8085 (640x360).jpgIMG_8086 (640x360).jpgbe a screw there?

that's just a drain hole, I'd remove the screw

So if thats just a drain hole and I've got gear lube coming out of it, I guess I've got a bigger problem?

that should be just unburnt fuel/oil mix, its should be either black, or white foamy goo.

yeah, maybe...or it's unburnt fuel mix....if you determine it is gear lube...d/s seals and or shift rod seal may be the culprit

I guess it could be unburnt fuel mix, with the engine running so bad, I guess there was a build up. Nasty stuff! It doesn't really smell like gear lube. I changed the gear lube just to be sure and it didn't look too bad. Thanx for all your input!
