1972 ...85 johnson

i have an issue.. just bought a boat has a 85 johnson 1972 and not sure it runs gonna get a battery this weekend. how can i tell if motor works good? any help gladly taken... i bought the part from bass pro shops for engine testing for water intake.. does a trash can work better?

Using a flusher to run on hose will work fine
