just want to know if any boatmates can tell me if it would be worth rebuilding this outboard, wouldn't mind having a back up if it's worth the time to do this...

It's not the site that makes this place worth coming to.

See the bolts on the transom thats holding the motor on? Well make sure ur boats in the water and undo those bolts and pull them out and give the motor a good ol' kick with ur big boot. It should fall right in and make a splash. (Thats a good siign it means its a better ancor than boat motor Just remeber if you are in the middle of the lake to bring a paddle to get back.

get a nice reiable 4 stroke motor. the 55hp produces like 35 hp

maybe i got lucky but my '73 chrysler hadn't been cranked in ten years before i bought it in june. All i had to do was clean the carb. and put it in the water.I've been putting 3 to 4 hours on it a week.18 dollars in gas and go.makes me feel good not having to spend a fortune in fuel.Boat, motor , fishfinder and trolling motor for 400.00.
I've been able to find piston and rings for installing later.

Any motor will do you good if its taken care of, force/chrysler got a bad rap cuz they were more the entry level boat motor so alot of newbies started with them and didnt maintain them properly im sure that didnt help with their rap. hopefully my force will do me good when i get it in the water, but thats the chance you take buying a used boat motor... i paid 600$ for a 89 19' bayliner capri bowrider with 89 125 force i think i got a good deal... ive had to replace the prop/water pump and now the tilt/trim motor so we'll see

as for your question id say most motors are worth getting running even a rebuild would be cheaper than a new or newer used motor good luck!

Chumdingy. If the motor has good compression and spark you should be able to get it up and running without too much cost. Parts are getting harder to find but not impossible. If either of the two cylinders are bad dont mess with it.

Yeh bud i owned a Chrysler 105 and it was the biggest peice of crap i have ever owned. Wasnt reiable, left me stranded in the lake loads of times and i got pissed off at it and did what i sugest every one to do with them. I unbolted it when it wouldnt start for me gave it a good kick and it landed in the lake. Its sitting in the bottom of the lake and that were it belongs, Bought a GT 150 and im so happy with it

Thanks euro, you've given some of the best advice and i've never asked you a question. This place is great for guys like me. My 74 55 is a dream come true it doesn't even make a full revolution and she's running, don't even have to pump the bulb, she's always ready to go..as far as the 72, it was still running after it got hot, i was just curious about takin the time to do it, I'll keep postin to let y'all know....
