When you reinstalled the LU, did you make sure that the water tube was installed correctly at the water pump AND the powerhead?

Also did you put the impeller key in. When you install an impeller you want to make sure the vanes are going the correct direction. Best way is to install impeller on shaft with key in place. push down on water pump while turning drive shaft clockwise till pump seats on waterpump plate.

Also the back plate of the pump has to fit flatly and snuggly in the bottom of the lower unit. I had to put some Form-a-gasket to make it seal properly. Also make sure the grommet seals tight and doesn't move within the tube.<br /><br />Another thing is if the head is not bent, the head gasket is not leaking and there are no water passages blocked in the short block, head, nor the exhaust port plate...do check those.<br /><br />Finally check the thermostat operation.

I had a blown head gasket on a 30hp after replacing impeller still wouldn't spit untill changed head gasket
