My son 750 miles away has hit something in the water. Motor release was set to fly up if hit something. No longer has forward gear but does have reverse. He feels like he has broken a gear and may also be leaking oil now.. Does this motor have a pin or clutch? Also he tried to remove the lower unit and when it drops down a couple inches it won't come out. I told him to disconect the shifter rod and it will come out. He cant see anywhere to disconect the rod. A mounting flange around the housing at the point of seperation is preventing him from seeing the main shaft or shifter rod even after the lower unit drops a couple inches. He looked under the hood and sees where the shift linkage comes in but says the screw is so far down in there and to close to the housing to get a screwdriver on it. Thanks for any help. Bud

Hi Bud and welcome to iboats. If you are unable to find the answer you are looking for go here

He has 25 years experience with chrysler and force motors

Upon further exam of the clymer book it shows two different type lower units. One is a one piece and the other is a two piece. The two piece one separates as I mentioned in Fishing Minnesota. Unfortunatly the removal of the one piece is not covered and there is no screw on the shifter. Maybe the motor leg covers come off and there is a long linkage connecting nut there. The shifer works on a clutch system the moves the forward and reverse gears into the drive shaft gear.

Good Luck
