I have a 1972 Evinrude 25 hp and I'm trying to add an electric starter to it. I have the proper starter, bracket, and selenoid, but I have no idea on how to wire it up. I have a seloc manual and can only find general guidelines on how it should be set up, but I'd like more information before I apply 12 volts to it all. My ignition switch can either be on the motor or remote, whichever works best, this motor is on a 15.5 Gheenoe Classic and will be taken off from time to time to run my other motors, none of which are electric start.

Any help or advise would be great.

i would prefer starter button on motor.

i assume you have starter and solenoid mounted.

+ cable from battery, goes to one large post on solenoid, also you will use a small wire from that post to push button starter switch. another small wire from starter switch, to small post next to the incoming large post. the other small post, wire grounds to the block. the remaining large post, cable goes to the starter. you need the ground cable from block to the - post on the battery. push the button, starter should work.

Thanks for all your help, everything works great. Now do you think I need a fuse and would I put it in the same place as in the above diagram? Also, I'll be the first to admit, I'm not above stupid, so should I put in a shorting switch? And if so, where?

Thanks again TD and Jasper, the help was spot on.
